Potty Training….Again
Since Ike disrupted our potty training the last time, we decided to talk to Em about it again. Yesterday and today I just mentioned going tee tee in the potty. All of a sudden before church, Emma looked at me and said, “I need to potty”. We went…..She actually went. During church she went again, and again at the end of church. After church we went to eat and to some stores…she never went in her diaper. To make a long day short, she has tee tee’d 8 times in the potty (all her telling us she had to go) and with no accidents.
Tomorrow she is going to school with panties on and 5 sets of clothes. Hopefully, she will be successful tomorrow as well. Of course this would happen when I just bought a new BOX of diapers. Yes, we have a ton to hopefully pass down to Baby Hop.
Hurricane Ike Update
Well, it is now 13 days after the hurricane. We are finally back to our house with power. Life is almost back to normal. Here is a quick breakdown of the past 13 days in the life of the Barrs. Nevermind. I tried to think back over the past 13 days, but it would be long and boring. Since I’m not one for long blogs, I’ll just quickly summarize.
We got to know our neighbors really well over this Hurricane break. We went down to Liz and Saqib’s often and ate prime meats (Filet Mignon, Lamb Chops, NY Strip) all matched with the perfect beer or wine. Emma enjoyed playing with the girls on the block as well. We also were very bored, hot and started getting irritable. By day 11-13 were we absolutely sick of not having power and not sleeping in our beds. Out of this whole thing I have become very fond of my vacuum, dishwasher (which is black and moldy), washer, dryer, and of course MY BED. We went 13 days without sleeping in it.
Emma did a great job during the storm. We had night light issues. She also will not go to sleep unless her door is cracked. I couldn’t have asked for a better daughter during this storm. Check out the rest of the photos under Emma’s photos, hurricane ike.
The new tree we got from our neighbors.

Em and Darby playing in the rain.

The beautiful sky after the storm. We had great weather and couldn’t ask for more.

We are alive…
For those of you who have been checking the site, here is your small update.
We made it through the hurricane fine. We are now on day 9 with no power. We are tired of the heat, sleeping downstairs, and eating stuff from the pantry. It is amazing how many things require ingredients from the fridge. I’ll post a better update when we get power back. Center Point is saying tomorrow, so please cross your fingers!
Hurrican Ike
Today has been spent preparing for Ike. Below are some of the preparation pictures. I think our main concern is the power outage. We will post pictures later of the during and after.
The front of our house.

The back of the house.

Em’s swingset. Hopefully, it will make it???!!! ![]()

We’ve cleaned out under the stairs, if needed.

Our food supply. The fridge and pantry never have this much food.

Who’s a Big Girl Now???
This afternoon, Nana picked Emma up from school. She was greeted by Ms. Susan telling her that Emma was to big to wear diapers. She had gone to the bathroom twice and was successful. We are now going to wear panties during the day and diapers at night and nap. We will see how this goes. We just had an accident, but it is only day one. I’m going to trust her school, because they have tons of potty training experience.
Labor Day Weekend
This weekend we went to the lake for a weekend of fun in the sun. We left Saturday morning to get ahead of the traffic. When we got to the lake we were met by Grandmother, Papa, Lindsey, Matt, and the dogs (Cheney, Sandy, Jiff and Molly the cat) we were then followed by Layne, Morgan, Jana, Derrek, Granny, Pop, Aunt Delores, Nicholas, Ally. Needless to say, we had a housefull! It was a lot of fun. We enjoyed boating, tubing, eating and hanging out. Pictures are posted under Emma’s photos, Labor Day 08.
