No longer a baby/toddler

After being home for the past two weeks on Christmas vacation, I came to the realization that Emma is no longer a baby or a toddler. She has turned into a kid. Her mannerisms, her actions, her communication skills, etc show all those of a real kid.
I have absolutely LOVED being home with her the past couple of weeks. She has been so much fun. Emma loves putting puzzles together, playing games, imagination, playing outside, doing arts and crafts, learning letters and numbers. Emma also has started holding her pencil, pen or marker the right way and has done a great job tracing letters and numbers.
Emma can also dress herself completely. She has been able to put her shirt and pants on by herself, but now she has mastered putting her socks and some shoes on.

In a way, I’m very sad that our baby girl is gone, but I am so happy we have a wonderful little girl. She is such a sassy joy to have in our lives! Love you little munchkin!

Gingerbread House

One tradition the Yeager family always had while we grew up was to make a gingerbread house and decorate it. Back in the day, my mom would make the gingerbread dough from scratch, roll it out, cut the pattern, cook it, then put it together with royal icing, then we would decorate it with all the different kind of candy imaginable. She would even place toys inside the house for when we tore it apart on Christmas day, everyone would get a prize.

Now days, they create kits with everything in it. This is great for the not so Betty Crocker type. I do have to admit, I miss the raw gingerbread dough that was left over in my parents fridge. It was great to eat on the go.

This was the second year the kids (or grandchildren, Morgan, Emma and Logan), would decorate it. Each child has their own side to decorate. Morgan and Emma get a side, Logan (being his first year), got the back and the front was left for Dean. Mo, Em, and Lo did a great job. They shared sides, and took turns. There was no fighting and they had a lot of fun. The best part was when Logan had enough of the decorating and decided to pull the candy off the house, take a bite, then put it back on the house. It was hilarious. I don’t think he realized that anyone was paying attention to him. Morgan, Logan and Emma had a great time decorating together and I know it will be a tradition they will enjoy for years to come! Maybe next year we can go back to the homemade house….HINT MOTHER!

Emma’s First Recital

This past weekend, Emma had her first dance recital. Her class of 9 performed 2 ballet dances. The first was to “Up on the Housetop”, the second was to “We Wish you a Merry Christmas”. I really didn’t have high expectations for the dance. She had done pretty good during practice, but I wasn’t sure how she would do when alot of people would be watching her. I didn’t even think she would put the full costume on. Emma surprised me so much, she put the full costume on; outfit, gloves, and hat, and did both dances. She even had a little fall at the end, but so did a lot of other girls, so that was okay.
Watching her dance at the recital, made me really realize that dance is really Emma’s thing. It may change in a 6 months, a year or 5 years, but for now, I really see her dancing for awhile. Way to go Em! Our pretty ballerina!

Here is the video.

Snow in Humble

This past week we were very lucky to have another day of snow. It was so much fun to see it fall like it did. I have never seen snow like that in my 30 years of being alive. It was so beautiful! Emma enjoyed playing in it at the Barrs and at home with the neighbors! The snow lasted a full day from Friday afternoon and it stayed on the ground until Saturday afternoon. It was beautiful!

Fun Fall Weekend

This weekend was filled with Emma’s schools Thanksgiving Feast, a birthday celebration for my friend Jen, and family dinner at the Yeager house.

Halloween 2009

I knew Emma would love Halloween this year, because she knew what it was about a little bit more than last year. We started “shopping” for her costume in August. We looked on website after website to find what she wanted to be…Kitty Cat, princess, insect, bug, etc. We looked and looked. Finally we decided on Silvermist from Tinkerbell. We had the costume, we were excited and all. Then, the week before Halloween hits. Emma changes her mind, like a typical female does. She decides she wants to be a kitty cat instead. I of course start to panic thinking we will never find ears and a tail that close to Halloween. Other than that, she could just wear black clothes. We were extemely lucky in finding the purrfict ears and tail.

The day before Halloween, we headed to our church AUMC for the annual Trunk or Treat hosted by the Children’s ministry. Emma LOVED it. She would trick or treat, jump in the bounce house, trick or treat, eat pizza and cotton candy (not really, maybe a bite), trick or treat, run around. Emma had a blast. She was so excited and loved every minute of it.

Halloween night, we dressed as a kitty again. I wasn’t sure if she would switch back to Silvermist or not…We headed out around the neighborhood to see what everyone was up to. We ran into our neighbors and enjoyed seeing their costumes. After our street and one other, Emma had had enough skipping, singing and running through the streets. Actually, she would have probably gone all night long, but she had had two busy nights. Emma LOVED this night as well. She was so happy the whole time. It was such a wonderful sight to see. I can’t wait to see what next years Halloween is like!

Mystery Trip 2009

This year for our birthday’s the Barrs decided to send Travis and I on a mystery trip. We would have no clue to where we were going or what we would do while we were there. We were very excited about the much needed get away.

The trip started on Friday afternoon. Candace and Barry headed over to the house with a book full of envelopes. Each envelope was the address to the place we were going for the assigned part of the trip. Some reservations had been made, some were just fun places they wanted us to go. The book was full of about 20 envelopes. The first one instructed us to go I-10 West and exit Luling. We were very excited during that part of the leg. Still having no clue as to where we were going. After a short bit, we knew we were headed to the Hill Country, where we had predicted. We were correct. We were heading to Wimberley, Texas. Again, we had no clue what was there, or what there was to do, but we were still game.
About 9:00 that night, we pulled in to our house for the weekend. Artisans’ Inn, a little bed and breakfast next to Penny and Larry’s house. It was the cutest little thing ever. Very warm and inviting. There were lights, candles, wine, and cheesecake waiting for us when we arrived. It was so nice to be “home” after the long drive. After putting our stuff down, we headed to a restaurant right down the road (everything is right down the road in Wimberley). It was a German Brew House. We had some great German food and a small variety of beer. It was perfect.

Saturday morning we woke up to a knock at our door and our wonderful breakfast was delivered on the front porch. Spinach omelet, toast, potatoes, orange juice, water. It was delicious and just want we needed to get our day started. After breakfast we were off for stop #1. Bella Vista Ranch. We were on a tour of the only olive ranch in the state of Texas. Jack makes great olive oil with the trees planted on his land. It was so awesome to hear the history of the olive tree and how it goes through many weather hardships. Jack was a very educated and dedicated man. After a tour of the land, we headed inside the tasting room to taste olive oil. Yes, straight olive oil. It thought it was very weird, but I now know what to look/taste for in a good olive oil. We also had to swing by later in the weekend to buy more olive oil, cause we didn’t think we purchased enough. :0)

After Bella Vista, we were off to lunch at the Salt Lick. We were curious on what this was for the 50 minute wait in the middle of a non eating time (2:00), but once we got our food, we understood why. It was the best BBQ ever. Travis had a two meat plate and I had a chopped beef sandwich. YUMMY! After Salt Lick we headed to Spicewood Vineyard. We were headed out to taste some great Texas wine. This vineyard was beautiful. That night, Travis and I had a fancy dinner at The Blair Inn. This is another bed and breakfast that was right down the road from our B&B. It cooks themed dinners each Saturday night. This nights dinner was a German Theme Octoberfest night. It started with a potato cake and homemade applesauce, followed by a dumpling soup, then a butter salad, followed by Saurerbrat Roulade, then for dessert we had an apple-raisen strudel with rum sauce. It was delicious!

Sunday we woke to another yummy breakfast of french toast, sausage, herbed potatos, orange juice and water. Again, it was delicious. Penny and Larry make the best breakfasts ever. The best part is that it is delivered and we didn’t have a dish to clean. The B&B was great! After breakfast Travis and I put on our yucky clothes and headed to the place that I was the most curious about. IT WAS ZIPLINING! So cool. We would suit up and ride/hike up to the top of the mountains and zip down 8 different lines. It was the coolest and prettiest thing ever. It felt as if we were flying through the Hill Country. I made sure to look around and take in the surroundings. It was a beautiful day and you could see for miles. The sad part about this leg of the mystery trip is that I could have done the zip lines again and again and again. It was that awesome! I will definitely be doing that again. After the ziplining and cleaning up, Travis and I headed out for lunch at the Leaning Pear. This was a great meal because it was light and yummy. After lunch we headed out to Driftwood Vineyard. This was the prettiest view in all the area. The tasting room over looked the vineyard. At Driftwood you could sit under the trees, enjoy the live music and the beautiful view. I could have sat there for hours, especially on the beautiful day. After enjoying the view and tasting some great wine, we headed out to our last stop in Wimberley and on our mystery trip. We headed out to Mandola vineyard. This is the vineyard of one of the Carraba guys. This vineyard also had a beautiful area to sit and enjoy a glass or bottle of your favorite wine. We sat on a bench and enjoyed people watching and playing Bachi ball (you throw balls and try to get it closest to a little ball). Again, I could have sat for hours and enjoyed the peaceful surroundings. Sitting wasn’t long because we had to eat again. We stopped at the restaurant next to Mandola’s winery. They had delicious Italian food.
After another fun filled, busy day, Travis and I headed back to the B&B early and went to bed (craving breakfast already). It had been such a great day.

Monday morning, we didn’t want to wake up. We both realized that it was the end of our trip and we were headed back to the real word of work, children, dogs, laundry, the grocery store, etc. We laid in bed as long as we could before packing up and heading out. We did get out of bed to enjoy our last Penny breakfast. On the way home we stopped by Shiner Texas at the Shiner Brewery. We had to have a tasting and tour of the Brewery.

It was a great trip. One of the best I have ever been on. It was the best birthday present Travis and I could have ever asked for. Hopefully, we will get another one….one day! Enjoy the pictures below of all of our adventures. We do have videos of Travis and I zip lining and they will be posted soon.
Enjoy!
